Antique French mirror, circa 1840, with gilt frame decorated with a band of basket weave on the inner edge and a serpentine profile band of rippling towards the outside of the frame finishing in an undulating edge. Where this mirror has been dusted for over 150 years, the gilding has thinned on the raised edges of the frame and the terracotta bole beneath the gold leaf is just starting to show through. The mirror plate is later and is in very good condition giving an excellent reflection. This very tactile mirror can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
