Very unusual early 19th century Spanish swept corner rectangular mirror. The wide, gently outcurved frame has a mixture of etched designs and raised floral and foliate decoration either side of each of the shield-shaped swept corners. Where this mirror has been cleaned for over 200 years, the gilding has thinned, particularly in the centre of the two short sides, revealing a very interesting etched terracotta design reminiscent of a South American pattern. The original mercury plate has just a little age and gives an excellent reflection and this stunning mirror can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
