19th century French mirror, circa 1880, with etched gilt frame decorated with alternating bands of burnished and matt gold, beaded sight edge and, at each lower corner, the design changes to an acanthus leaf. After more than 100 years of cleaning, the gold leaf has thinned revealing the terracotta bole beneath, which gives this mirror a lovely warm colour. The original glass is in very good condition, with just a hint of age, and gives an excellent reflection. This mirror will make a handsome overmantel.
