Antique French mirror, circa 1870, with burnished, watergilt, undulating frame. Where the mirror has been cleaned for over 100 years, the gilding has thinned, revealing the terracotta bole beneath as well as brighter gold bands going across the outcurving frame where the sheets of gold leaf slightly overlapped and were thicker. The original glass is in very good condition and this attractive mirror can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape. The horizontal line you can see across the glass is not in the mirror, it is just a reflection of the blind we have hanging on the opposite wall.
