Antique French mirror, circa 1840, with gilt frame decorated with a central raised ropetwist design between basketweave borders. Where this mirror has been cleaned for almost 200 years, the gilding has thinned a little to reveal the terracotta bole and cream gesso beneath. Each corner has a delicate, diagonal, stem, flower and leaf decoration and the original mercury glass is in very good condition with only light age, sparkles when it catches any direct light and gives an excellent reflection. This mirror can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
