Rectangular, 19th century, French mirror, circa 1840s, with narrow, undulating, burnished watergilt frame with gilding which wraps around the outside edges. Where the mirror has been cleaned for more than 150 years, the gold leaf has thinned a little revealing the terracotta bole beneath which gives this mirror a warm colouration. The original, mercury glass has medium age but sparkles beautifully in the light and still gives a good reflection. This attractive and unusual mirror can be hung portrait, as photographed, or landscape.
