French Directoire period (1789-1804) rectangular mirror with dark gilt reeded frame. Due to the mirror's age and location, the gold leaf has darkened and thinned giving this mirror chestnut brown tones. The original, mercury plate has a little age but still gives a very good reflection. This mirror would work well as an overmantel in both a traditional and modern setting and has a very contemporary look for a piece that's over 200 years old. Also it can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
