Very large antique French rectangular mirror, circa 1840, with swept corner decoration of intertwining acanthus leaves and flowers either side of a central oval medallion. The frame has an etched design of undulating stems with little acorns and oak leaves and the gilding has darkened with age and also thinned after years of cleaning, revealing some of the terracotta bole beneath the gold leaf. The original mercury glass has a little age but is generally in very good, clear condiiton and gives an excellent reflection. This handsome mirror can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
