Large 19th century French archtop mirror, circa 1870, with outcurving frame decorated with an etched, banded gilt design and beaded sight edge (edge closest to the glass). Where the mirror has been dusted for over 150 years, the gilding has thinned a little, revealing the terracotta bole beneath, giving the mirror frame a warm glow. The beaded edge, having been cleaned more thoroughly, is revealing the creamy-white gesso, particularly along the base. The original glass is in very good condition with just a hint of age and gives an excellent reflection. This mirror would make a very handsome overmantel.
