Late 19th century rectangular French mirror with gilt frame decorated at each corner with a slightly overhanging design of curled acanthus leaves with a central raised pear shaped motif, known as a "swept corner". Each corner has floral and foliate sprays running down either side of the frame. Where the gilding has worn after many years of dusting, the red bole beneath is showing through, giving this mirror a warm glow. The unusual, bevelled glass has a little light age but gives an excellent reflection and this mirror can be hung portrait, as photographed, or landscape.
