Wide, late 19th century French gilt mirror with serpentine top. The narrow, watergilt frame is decorated at each corner, mid-way along the long sides and across the top with delicate, rococo style acanthus leaves and flowers. Unusually for a French mirror, the layer of bole beneath the gilding is a soft brown and this attractive colour is showing through the gold leaf, especially along the bottom edge after years of dusting. The original, bevelled glass is in very good condition with just a little age. This mirror would make an excellent overmantel.
