Large, decorative, portrait, antique mirror with curved top between outset corners and double curved base. The frame is gently outcurving and decorated with a raised design including acanthus leaves and, where the mirror has been cleaned over many years, the gilding has thinned revealing some cream gesso and warm terracotta bole beneath. A wide floral and foliate cartouche with central shell decorates the top and an acanthus leaf and floral cartouche decorates the base and, at each corner, there is a scrolling acanthus leaf. A beaded edge runs along the central, mercury glass which is in good condition with a little age. French, circa 1840. Although not the conventional shape, this mirror would make a magnificent overmantel.
