Very large 19th century French mirror with outcurving, burnished gilt frame. Where the gold leaf has thinned through years of dusting, the unusual chestnut brown bole is showing through as well as the brighter gold lines where each sheet of gold leaf slightly overlapped. The gilding continues around the outside edges so this mirror looks just as good from the side. The bow cartouche could be removed to simplify the mirror and it would then be 167cm high. The original glass has age in the form of dark freckling but still gives a very good reflection.
