Large, rectangular French mirror, circa 1830, with gilt frame decorated with rows of delicate paired leaves and flowers and an acanthus leaf rosette at each corner and mid-way along the shorter sides. Where this mirror has been dusted for almost 200 years, the original gilding has thinned leaving the warm terracotta bole showing through, especially along the outcurving edges of the frame. The original, mercury glass has some age but sparkles when it catches the light and gives a very good reflection. This lovely, original mirror can be hung portrait, as photographed, or landscape and would make a superb overmantel over a large fireplace.
