Compact, decorative, late 19th century French mirror with serpentine top and high cartouche with central urn flanked by curling acanthus, vine leaves and beads. The layered frame has a raised central border of diagonal acanthus leaves and beads with worn burnished gilt bands and delicate acanthus leaf sight edge. After over 100 years of dusting, the gold leaf has thinned revealing the pale gesso beneath and the cartouche has some dark silver leaf on a few of the acanthus leaves. The original, bevelled glass has age in the form of little stars but the mirror still gives a gentle reflection.
