Beautifully carved, gilt wood, late 18th century French margin mirror with intricately decorated corners of curling acanthus leaves and carved wood frames decorated with angled acanthus leaves. All the outer sections of the mirror are bevelled mercury glass and the central mirror glass has gentle foxing and age, mainly towards the lower left of the photograph, but still gives a good reflection. Even the construction of the back, made long before power tools, is fascinating. The horizontal line across the glass is just a reflection of the join in the blind opposite and is not part of the mirror which can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
