Unusually wide, simple and elegant, 19th century French gilt overmantel mirror, circa 1840s, with double curved top and central acanthus leaf and flower cartouche nestled between the curves. The gilt frame has a mixture of burnished and matt gold sections with an ourcurving, central panel etched with a criss-sross design and a narrow, plain, gilt frame along the base decorated at each corner with an elongated acanthus leaf. The original mercury glass has just a little light age mostly along the base and sparkles beautifully.
