Elegant antique oval mirror with bevelled mercury glass

Mid 19th century French oval mirror with burnished watergilt frame which is outcurving around the glass and finishes with a gentle slope around the outer edge. The slightly brighter gold lines you see around the frame are where each sheet of gold leaf overlapped and have become more noticeable as the mirror has been dusted, slightly thinning the gilding, for over 170 years. The original mercury glass is bevelled and has a little age in the form of dark dots towards the top, but sparkles beautifully and gives an excellent reflection. This lovely, simple, elegant mirror is a timeless classic and will look beautiful in any room.
